Pride Boards for Kids - Teaching spatial limits

Kids love to show off their certificates, accomplishments, and art work and that's wonderful! It can, however become an issue when what they want to display is an ever-expanding collage of paper. Creating a Pride Board for them gives them a place of honor in their room or somewhere else in the house. You can use a cork board, a piece of poster board, or something with a frame - as long as there is a clear border around the edge.. The rule is as long as what they want to display fits within the border, they can display it.

This teaches children many things. Firstly, that space to put things in is finite. Secondly, that there are appropriate places for things. And lastly, it teaches them to prioritize what is important in the moment. As their board fills up, they will need to remove things in order to keep putting things on display. To help with this, the most special items that no longer need to be displayed can still be kept in a binder or box for awhile. But keep on top of the binder or box or it will be the same problem with a new home!

We want children to learn to let go of things that are no longer as significant as they once were. We want them to live in the present and be okay with the passing of time.
